Zia Marshall
Author, Poet, Editor
Zia Marshall is a poet and storyteller whose art transforms everyday moments into poignant narratives filled with the scent of memory and the taste of lived experience. Whether crafting poetry or prose that captures the beauty of raw emotions, Zia invites readers to explore the stories within themselves.
Dividing her time between the vibrant city of Hyderabad and the serene, mist-shrouded hills of Coonoor, Zia draws inspiration for her work from both nature and human nature. During the time she spent in the Blue Hills of the Nilgiris, with their misty peaks and vibrant wildflowers, many of her poems took shape. On her long walks along the winding Nilgiri roads, her muse would often strike amid the gentle breeze carrying the earthy scent of wet soil and tea leaves. She raced home to capture her inspiration in her trusted journal. Her second poetry collection, "Petals in the Breeze," blossomed here.
The scent of dog fur and old paper fills the air as Zia writes, her three dogs — Fudge, Toffee, and Cookie — snuggling close, their warm bodies a comforting presence while she explores themes of resilience, identity, and the human spirit in her stories. After being diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, she channelled her challenges into art through her debut poetry collection, From Breaking to Blooming. This book offers hope and healing to those broken by life’s complexities, exploring universal themes of transformation and resilience; it's a journey of emotional catharsis.
Zia dedicates a portion of her time to voluntary editorial work with Yogoda Satsanga Society of India, a spiritual organization. Contributing to their publications fills her with a sense of purpose.
