"What if I began to believe that the critique isn’t just
an unwelcome part of the art making process but might
actually make the art better?"
- Emily P. Freeman.
Peer-like evaluation dates back to ancient Greece, where scholars debated and critiqued each other's work. Philosophers like Socrates used dialogic methods to test ideas. IQC has picked up on that grand tradition and created our own weekly peer review session for our membership. The weekly review has quickly become a cornerstone of IQC’s programs used by our members to help craft their work in progress.

What is a Peer Review?
IQC’s peer review is a program to foster collaboration, provide constructive feedback, and help members improve their writing. Peer reviews encourage diverse perspectives, strengthen storytelling techniques, and highlight areas needing clarity or development. They also create accountability, build confidence through supportive critique, and deepen connections among group members, fostering a sense of community. Our members provide valuable feedback on plot, pacing, and character development, helping identify inconsistencies or weaknesses. Their insights offer fresh perspectives, enhances emotional resonance, and highlights reader engagement. The constructive criticism shared ensures the story connects with audiences, refining it for publication and increasing its impact.
How does it work ?
Peer review sessions occur every alternate Friday and Saturday. Authors who wish to get their work reviewed, prebook slots for the upcoming month on a first come first served basis. Typically, the slots get booked within a few minutes! Once a slot is booked, the author prepares their submission based on our guidelines. On the allotted review week, the author's piece and details are shared in the discussion group along with a poll to confirm attendance by reviewers. The author grants access to their work to only those who RSVP, thereby maintaining confidentiality and author discretion. This structure allows reviewers ample time to evaluate the submission before the review session. During the live review, attendees provide detailed, constructive feedback tailored to the author’s needs. These sessions create a collaborative space for growth, offering both authors and reviewers opportunities to refine their craft. Many works reviewed in this system have gone on to publication, a testament to the value of peer critique.
"Weekly Peer Reviews started with an intention of giving our members a taste of what a group peer review feels like, to help members grow not only as a writer but also as a reviewer."
