The Little Bird that Sings in my Heart
Binu Sivan
I came to grief late, but when it came into my life, it came in like a nuclear explosion. As I made my way through this valley of thorns my guide was and is my daughter... from across the veil. This piece is my tiny attempt to share her wonderful spirit and grit with the world.

Binu Sivan
She wrote her first poem as she struggled through her first, boring-as-hell job with a trading firm. The job lasted a week. Three decades later, she is still writing. When she is not writing poems, or posting on Substack, she is working on the third draft of her debut novel. A firm believer in ‘give it a shot,’ she has worked in marketing, tried to join the Indian army (their loss is media’s gain), assisted filmmakers Mani Ratnam and Santosh Sivan, scripted and produced a short film, been a scriptwriter, a reporter, a deputy editor, and a creative writing teacher. Nowadays she works as a clinical hypnotherapist and a grief counsellor, when she is not writing, cooking, meeting friends, walking, daydreaming or sleeping.
