Ami Chitrangada, Rajendranandini
Rabindranath tagore
Translated by: Nilanjana Mukherjee
Rabindranath Tagore’s lyric “Ami Chitrangada, rajendranandini” from the ballet CHITRANGADA, is set in the era of the Mahabharata epic, wherein the princess of Manipur reveals her true identity to Arjun, the third Pandav, on their wedding day.
The poem is thought to reflect Tagore’s ideals about gender equality in man-woman relationships.
It was first published in July 1936.
