The Nearness Of Distance
Mojaffor Hossain
Translated by: Rituparna Mukherjee
I think the art of flash fiction is a training in using words judiciously, no word
is superfluous, no expression redundant. Mojaffor Bhai is a true artist in this
form and translating him is always a very pleasurable experience. His stories
manage to convey the profound moments with remarkable clarity. While
translating him, the brevity of expressions while carrying forward the cadence
of Bangla is paramount to my translating experience. At the same time, I am conscious of retaining the structural integrity of the English language.
