QuillMark Issue #3

The Vegetarian Way
Padmini Sankar
I'm not sure about the inspiration for this piece.I'm always intrigued by people who are in the background, who don't usually step forward. What kinds of lives do they lead? This story is about a browbeaten man who gets his back on his tormenters. It's from the protagonist's POV (the close third) with occasionally an omniscient POV.

Padmini Sankar
Padmini Sankar has two traditionally-published books, The Mother of all Parties ( women’s fiction, publisher Black Ink, imprint of HarperCollinsIn, 2020), and Zara and the Bumbling Genie (middle-grade fantasy, publisher Om Books International, 2025). Her short stories have been published in Arabian Noir, a CWA anthology, and the HWA Dorothy Dunnett anthology, where she was a finalist in their short story competition. She has also been published in online literary magazines like Out of Print and A Tale of Four Cities.
When not writing, Padmini enjoys reading, travelling and cooking.
